Banner X ads are responsive, interactive banner ads with multiple components delivered to a retailer's frontend.
Overview of banner X
Epsilon Retail Media offers an interactive and responsive banner ad option called banner X, which supports both multi-image, video, and shoppable banners. This multi-asset approach enables you to dynamically render content across web and app placements in your branding and styling. Some key benefits are:
- Native appearance integration: Facilitates server-to-server integration with retailers' websites, ensuring control over ad rendering for consistent design. Allows retailer frontend teams to tailor core components to align with the site's eCommerce style, maintaining a cohesive brand appearance.
- User engagement: Includes features such as calls-to-action (CTAs) and interactive elements to boost user interaction and engagement.
- Accessibility support: As text fields are supplied in the ad response including banner text, header accessibility text, call to action accessibility text, and image alternative text, you can ensure your site supports your customers that utilise screen readers.
Banner X formats
You can create responsive banner X ads in both video and image formats. Here are the types:
Type | Description |
---|---|
Standard banner X | Allows advertisers to upload multiple images (such as hero images of products and background images) that can be dynamically rendered with banner text on top with your call to action (CTA) styling. Unlocking the ability for advertisers to curate one banner that can be rendered in a variety of viewports on your site. The goal is to capture users' attention and drive engagement through dynamic content. Example: A travel agency's website features an interactive banner displaying a map with various vacation destinations. Users can click on destinations, causing pop-up windows with quick videos, itineraries, and testimonials from previous travelers to appear. This enhances the interactive experience and increases the likelihood of booking. |
Video banner X | Allows advertisers and retailers to upload engaging videos to their banners instead of static images. These video ads are promotional videos displayed directly on the retailer's website or app. They aim to influence purchasing decisions by showcasing products in an engaging and informative way. See Video ads. Example: On a grocery website, customers browsing kitchen appliances might see a video ad for a new blender. The ad demonstrates the blender in action, highlighting features like multiple speed settings and ease of cleaning. Clicking the video directs users to the product page for more details or purchase options, seamlessly integrating with the shopping journey. |
Shoppable banner X (includes companion products) | Enables you to create banner X campaigns using creatives, text, and companion products. The companion product feature lets advertisers curate an ordered list of products that customers can shop from directly on the banner. Using the companion products component, advertisers can select an ordered list of shoppable products with the banner. See companion products. |
Shoppable video banner X (includes companion products) | Enables you to create banner X campaigns using video creatives, text, and companion products. The companion product feature lets you curate an ordered list of products that customers can shop from directly on the banner. Using the companion products component, advertisers can select an ordered list of shoppable products with the banner. |
Shoppable video banner X with images (includes companion products) | Enables you to create banner X campaigns using video and banner creatives, text, and companion products. The companion product feature lets you curate an ordered list of products that customers can shop from directly on the banner. This allows brands to select an ordered list of shoppable products alongside the banner. Note: Epsilon generally does not recommend to combine videos, banner images, and companion products in a single banner, unless banner images are branding images (e.g. logos). If there are more than two creative assets, we recommend displaying only the primary two (e.g., a video and the primary hero image) on the banner. |
Here's a quick visual representation of standard banner X, video ads, and companion products formats for banner X.

The above showcases a top banner as well as double-tile configuration of banners on an example retailer site.
Advertisers and retailers can add shoppable elements to video content, enabling interaction and direct purchasing through the video. Shoppable elements include:
- Calls-to-action (CTAs): Encourage users to interact, learn more, or purchase directly from the ad.
- Primary and secondary images: Visuals that complement the video content, providing additional product context.
- Backgrounds: Designs that enhance visual appeal and focus attention on shoppable elements.

Ad slot formats
Banner X can be deployed in a variety of formats due to its flexible nature.
We typically have 3 standard formats we advise to use:
- Banner: Positioned on across the full width of a shoppable area, typically on the top of a relevant page such as above search or category listings.
- Single tile: Positioned in the product grid and covering a single product tile instead of a product listing. Single tiles are great for capturing shopper attention as the natural customer browsing will have attention to product listings.
- Double tile: Positioned in the product grid across two product tiles, creating a larger, more attention grabbing ad unit.
Supported placements
The following placements are supported for the video and image format of banner X:
Placement | Description |
---|---|
Search | Search placements display ads on pages where customers have initiated a keyword search on your site, such as queries for milk, cheese, chocolates, etc. These ads are triggered by the customer's search terms, providing a high degree of personalization and relevance. For example, if a customer searches for a product, sponsored listings or related ads may appear at the top of, or within, these search results. |
Category | A category placement type strategically positions a brand's products or ads on a specific category page of a retail website or app. This enhances their relevance by appearing alongside similar items, thereby increasing effectiveness. |
Home Page | Home page placement refers to the strategic positioning of advertisements or promotional content on the main landing page of a retailer's website. This prime location is highly visible to visitors as it is typically the first page they see when they visit the site. The home page placement aims to capture the attention of potential customers immediately, driving traffic to specific products or promotional campaigns. |
Specials | Specials placement refers to the strategic positioning of advertisements or promotional content on pages dedicated to showcasing ongoing sales, discounts, or special offers. This placement aims to attract customers looking for deals and encourage them to explore and purchase discounted products. For example, "Summer Clearance Sale: Up to 70% Off on Selected Items," guiding customers to explore discounted products for the season |
Checkout | Checkout placement refers to the strategic positioning of advertisements or promotional content on the pages where customers review their cart and complete their purchases. This placement aims to encourage additional sales or highlight special offers at the point where customers are most likely to make a buying decision. |
